Over 132 attended
this year’s graduation and banquet on a beautiful evening in the
setting of the Ft. Douglas Officers Club on the U of U Campus.
Cleve child, our main speaker, did an awesome job and not only
gave the apprentices some good advice, but he threw in some
humor as well. The event was attended by apprentices with their
significant other, parents, employers, IEC officers and board
members, distributor and associate members as well as Keynote

Each bag also included a water cooler, pliers, 7pc power grip,

The audience heard from Kevin Seeley, president of IEC of Utah;
Brad Stevens, State Electrical Bard chairperson; and Cleve Child
retired from Siemens Energy and Automation, keynote speaker.
Mr. Child praised the apprentices for standing by their
principles and doing what it takes to put in the time to achieve
their goal—they had to make sacrifices over the years, but the
time had now come to reap the benefits!
Cleve served in the United States Navy and was a Korean War
hero, petty officer 2nd class. He shared some humors
stories with the group about his military service. He also
commented on how the electrical industry had treated him right
for over 30 years.

Mr. Child ended with The
Fly Fisherman’s Prayer:
Lord grant that I may fish
until my dying day,
and when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray,
When in the Lord’s safe landing net,
I am peacefully asleep—
that in his mercy I be judged
—a KEEPER.

The
certificates were presented to each student by Dirk Burton,
member of the State Electrical Board. Dirk challenged the
apprentices before giving them their certificates by asking
three code questions and presenting each winner with $50.00.
Following were the winners: Mark Manwaring, Matthew Nelson, and
Kelly Walker.
The event sponsors were: All-Tech Electric, Arco Electric,
Federated Insurance, GSL Electric, Green Power Solutions,
Highland Electric, John White & Associates, and Taylor Electric.
The evening was a success due to the generosity of all our
sponsors.
Congratulations once again to the
Graduating Apprentices. |
