Over
135 attended this year’s sixth annual graduation and banquet
on a beautiful evening (the first one we have had this
“spring” season) in the setting of the Ft. Douglas Officers
Club on the U of U Campus. The event was attended by
apprentices with their significant other, parents/family
guests, IEC contractor members. IEC officers and board
members, distributor and associate members
Kevin
Seeley IEC of Utah President welcomed the group and as well
as provided the opening and closing remarks, wishing all the
graduates the best.
Robert
Kirby, our keynote speaker, had the audience “doing belly
laughs” as well as handing out some advice. He was sure that
having humor in your life is very important on keeping a
good perspective on life; and the drug you produce when you
laugh can not be detected in a “dug test” so there should be
no concern with abusing laughter. He advised the apprentices
to always try to connect with people on what you have in
common instead of looking for the differences. And above all
else do not give a police officer your credit cards if you
are pulled over; they really do not do credit checks.
Dirk
Burton State of Utah Electrical Board Chairman also
addressed the apprentices here is part of his “story,”
……As graduated Electricians, don’t be a poor conductor, but
be a live wire! A poor conductor is resistive to change, but
a live wire will stay current! Current with codes and
technology. A poor conductor is a dim wit, whereas a live
wire is enlightened! And brings light to others. A poor
conductor has no money, but a live wire is charged! And the
livelier you are, the more you can charge. A poor conductor
is powerless, but a live wire is powered. As Graduates you
have power. Power to accomplish much good in our
industry…………
