Expedited Licensure
In 2020, Utah DOPL introduced an Expedited Licensure rule R156-55b-302c. This rule allows apprentices to take approved competency exams in sequence to satisfy education requirements or determine program placement.
Guidelines and Policies
-
All licensed electrical apprentices are eligible to participate in the Expedited Licensure testing process. License verification must be complete prior to scheduling an exam.
-
Each test may only be taken once and NO RETAKES WILL BE PERMITTED. To take a test, you must have successfully passed the previous semester’s class or test. Note: If you have previously taken any of the exams at another institution, it is against the law to attempt a retake of the same exam and could result in license suspension or fines.
-
All tests will be administered by appointment only. The tests are written, proctored, and hand-scored in person. Results will be available within 24 hours.
-
A one-time $50 fee will be charged upon registration. Students are eligible to continue testing, in sequence, until they fail. Refunds (less credit card fees) will be issued only if notice of cancellation is received at least two business days before scheduled appointments.
-
Placement in the apprenticeship program is determined when the student scores below 75% on the corresponding exam.
-
For each exam that is passed, an additional $200 fee will be charged to generate a letter of completion. This letter will be equivalent to an official transcript and is a necessary document when applying for a Journeyman License.
